Refunds and withdrawal

When you can withdraw from a purchase, how a refund is made, and who handles it.

1. Who sells, and who refunds

Subscriptions are sold by our merchant of record, who is named on the checkout page and on your invoice. It is your seller: it concludes the purchase, charges you, issues the invoice, and handles withdrawal and refunds. Its terms of sale apply to the purchase.

Joydev GmbH provides the service itself, under our Terms of Service. If you are unsure where to turn, write to hello@joydev.com and we will put your request where it belongs.

2. Right of withdrawal for consumers

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have the right to withdraw from the purchase within fourteen days without giving any reason. The period begins on the day the contract is concluded.

To withdraw, tell the seller named on your invoice in a clear statement, for example by email. You may use the model withdrawal form, but you do not have to. Sending the statement before the period ends is enough to meet the deadline.

On a valid withdrawal, everything you paid is returned without undue delay and at the latest within fourteen days of the statement reaching the seller, by the same means of payment you used, at no cost to you.

3. Digital content, and when the right ends early

A subscription is digital content that is supplied the moment it is paid for. At checkout you are asked to agree expressly that performance begins straight away, and to acknowledge that by doing so you lose your right of withdrawal once performance has begun in full (§ 356 (5) BGB, Art. 16(m) of the Consumer Rights Directive).

You do not have to give that agreement. Without it, the subscription starts once the withdrawal period has run.

4. Outside the withdrawal period

Once the withdrawal period has run, or once you have agreed to immediate performance, a paid period is not refunded pro rata. What you can do at any time is cancel: the subscription then stays fully available until the end of the current billing period and nothing is charged afterwards. Cancelling is done in your account settings and needs no reason.

This does not touch your statutory rights where the service is defective. If the service does not do what it is supposed to do, tell us and we will fix it; where we cannot, you are entitled to a reduction or to a refund of the amount for the affected period under the statutory rules.

5. Yearly subscriptions

A yearly subscription is one billing period of twelve months. The fourteen-day withdrawal right applies to it exactly as it does to a monthly one, including the early loss of that right if you agree to immediate performance.

After that, cancelling a yearly subscription ends it at the end of the twelve months it was paid for. The service stays fully available for the whole of that time, and there is no refund of the remaining months. If you would rather pay monthly, switch the billing interval instead of cancelling: the change takes effect when the paid period ends.

6. Business customers

The statutory right of withdrawal is a consumer right. If you buy in the course of your trade, business or profession, it does not apply to you. Cancellation to the end of the billing period applies to you in the same way.

7. Free tier

The Free tier costs nothing, so there is nothing to withdraw from and nothing to refund. You can delete your account at any time in the settings.
